1st project......

Here's my 1st project.  I've never made a pit before, let alone one on a trailer.  I'll just let ya'll be the judge.  --3/8'' wall on the fire box and the pit --diverter plate leaving the fire box--adjustable baffle plates about 2/3 rd's the way down--stack below the grill level--had the temp at the stack within 5 degs of leaving the firebox--Not quite done yet but it's ready to cook with for the owner   Let me hear what ya'll think..Miller 225 Bobcat

Reply:The guy I built it for brought me all the materials as needed ( alot of it was over kill ).  He's gonna paint it himself..The pipe out of the doors is holding the counter weight for the doors ( heavy without).As far as pricey... I wish  .... I made a deal on the price before, so he brought me about 14 ft. of 24 in. pipe ( in addition to funds ) that was given to him.. I figure I can make a few things with that it's self.Miller 225 Bobcat

Reply:Beefy unit, the couter-weights are huge!  A simple bar and latch system works as well, without using as much material. Is the inside channeled or sectioned so the smoke flows through it?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I like it.  Its worth $5.00 a pound.  By the way, how much does it weigh DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:The inside is a straight thru flow with the vented baffles split more toward the stack than the fire box.  A buddy of mine has built them with the stack below the grill and from what I've experianced, it keeps from developing a cold spot, like I said above 5 degs. differance from firebox to stack, I really amazed myself... As far as the weight, I have no idea other than it's freaking HEAVY..  I was able to balance it to a tounge weight light enough not to squat the back of my little ford ranger but about a half inch or so...  Light enough for a super skinny guy to lift.  P.S.-- ( As far as the counterweight.. ) The guy I built it for didn't want to buy anymore materials  , so I did the best I could with what I had..Miller 225 Bobcat
