What are the preparation jobs have to do to the workpiece before welding?my workpiece is a square (10cm long x 5cm width x 0.8 cm thick) mild steel.what jobs (such as grinding , cleaning and so on...) have to do before welding the workpiece?
Reply:Remove any oils first, acetone or other solvents like MEK can be used.Abrasively remove all surface mill scale and rust.Wipe down again with solvent.
Reply:Well it really depends on the situation in which the weld is needed, but pulser nailed it for a general answer as far as cleaning the steel. Depending on the situation you may need to bevel a plate edge or gouge a crack. If this is just for practice and its new metal just run over it with a grinder to knock the mill scale off and go to work. Also what type of welding will you be performing?I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I thought you just crank up the amps a little more to burn thru the rust and dirt! (just kidding)
Reply:the workpiece will welds by shielded metal arc welding, after that, it will bring to visual inspection and tensile test. hence, a right way of workpiece preparation need to do before welding it.
Reply:You still have not really given enough information. The type of joint, material, etc... will need to be known. If you are talking about some type of test then there should be parameters stated on how it is to be performed. If the joint will be tested for tensile strength then You will need FULL penetration. which means you will have to bevel and keyhole thru to fuse all the way thru the piece, or weld from both sides. As I said before if it is for some type of test the procedure should be given.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:You state it's for a weld test so Hammack hit the nail on the head. Every test follows a procedure, without that procedure number you can't get your answer here.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:is butt joint (only weld one side), material is mild steel |
