I want to weld some light gauge metal around 20ga to 1/4" steel.I was thinking of useing 6013, but what size electrode I don't know? Before I go out and buy a box can I hear your opinions? I'm thinking 3/32"
Reply:3/32 may work if your good at controling your arc ...5/64 might work better for you
Reply:7014 works well on sheet metal. It is an easy rod to run, you just drag it, no need to weave. Makes a very good looking bead. The penetration is less than 6013. (not as deep) It would work well welding thick to thin stock.Electricity provided by Miller Bobcat, Flames by Smith EquipmentMember, Secret Society of Carbon Arc Torch enthusiasts
Reply:Years ago When all I had was a 230 amp Craftsman buzz box I used to use 1/16" 6013. If your machine has DC use DCEN (straight polarity) for less penetration.Good luck.
Reply:cbrxx can you position it so you run slightly down hill on the thinner stuff usind 6013jim
Reply:I should of said this before, all the welds are lap joints in the flat position.

Reply:It might help to use a copper chill bar on the thin stuff, too.Experience is the sum of our mistakes.  Arcin' and Sparkin' Rocky D
