Does anyone do arc air gouging with the lincoln V450-Pro? If so has it had any effect on the machines performance,in welding duties? Looking at going from a diesel welder to a generator and power sources.Someone mentioned to me on another thread his concerns about using inverters to AAG,and am now looking into it a bit further.
Reply:Hey nitrodee. Long range prospects for durability, I don't have. But the inverters are nice, the V-series Pro's are outstanding. There may be some truth to the vulnerability of sensitive circuitry, but these are top of the line pieces of equipment and if they were weak in some regard, word would spread like wildfire. I tested with a V350 Pro, and we ran those machines on every process except tig with nary a burp. I've burnt 3/16" carbons on my 304, and had no trouble.My teacher mentioned that they use Lincoln inverters on Union jobs. That must say something. The topic may have come up between a few of us about heavy gouging all day long, and it may have been that he said a big portable engine drive might have an advantage if ALL that it had to do all day was gouge, day in and day out. Reply:Tanglediver,thanks for that.Pretty much what I expected.I do all forms of welding on site.On my truck I have a 500 Cigweld diesel.Having a 20kva generator it also powers the following welders that I carry.Fronius tps2800,lincoln invertec 270 tig,Kemppi mastertig MLS 230 ac/dc tig,Miller XMT 400,cebora 135 caddy,thermadine cutmaster 20..I just bought a 38kva generator virtually new(79 hours)for next to nothing.I will most likely put that on the truck instead of the diesel welder and use it to power the V450 pro.Also means I dont need the fronius,or the XMT 400 on the truck as the 450 pro does the pulse mig for Aluminum.Just gives me more options with a bit more condensed setup. I would only use the arc air on average once or twice a month for a total of 4-6 hours.

Reply:just watch your duty cycle limits and don't use to large of rod.You do not want to over heat any inverter welder.
