does anyone know where i can find training (i.e. classes, courses, or companies) that offer mirror welding techniques....stick or tig does not matter.....
Reply:These are the sorts of things you never learn in a welding class. Call up your weldin buddies, get a case of beer and have a mirror weldin party in the garage. That's the best training you'll get, aside from having to do it for real on a job.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Desertriders right. Welding with a mirror won't be offered in any welding course. Go ahead and practice this on your own. I wish i'd practiced before I had to do it. Let me tell you doing it on the job as your first attempt is not fun. Also if your sticking and using a mirror, use some splatter spray on the mirror. I ruined my mirror first time out.
Reply:mirror welding? whats that? proly a dumb question but im curious! lol!
Reply:Mirror welding is what you do when you have to weld around a pipe that is run in a corner with insufficient clearance to get your head on "the other side". It often involves a bent electrode as well (unless you have the pleasure of being an OA addict)Hobart LX235Victor 250 Oxy-Acetylene Rig (welding and cutting)Bobcat 773F-350, 1999, 4x4, 16' 10K# trailerOutdoor Wood Burner - 10 cords/year
Reply:if you can set up a jig in the corner of your shop, weld booth at school or make a wooden booth around your jig. Its really no fun, especially if its going to be an xray weld. Chances are you wont be able to get a grinder on it either.UA Local 598
Reply:Find a welder that does a lot of work in boilers. If he has experience, then he will probably be an expert. But probably not after he has had a case of beer

Reply:You just need to do it, nothing like replacing a pipe in a trench with an inch of clearance under it. I burnt up more mirrors, and made more funky bends in 6010 that way.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Like stated above you just gotta practice this one on your own.Asfar as losing/burning up mirrors, I've gotten in a habit of taping a clear lense over my mirrors to get alittle more life out of them.
