I bought a Horbart135 Mig for christmas so I could weld on 115 (makes it real portable!) for Christmas. Tried it out this weekend for the first time. It really welded well - played around with it and got great penitration and beads on 1/8" - better than I expected on 115! My problem is after the first 6" bead flames were coming out the tip! I blew them out and proceeded to run another bead trying different amps and current. Worked great - except I still had flames coming out the end (tip). Never seen anything like it before so I proceeded to pull off the tip - inside was some kind of tape wrapped around inside that was smoldering! It was hot and guey. Please - tell me this is not normal! I pulled off the burned tape, and tried to put back on the tip and it was so loose it fell off! What's going on? are you supposed to weld with fire coming out the tip - what happens when the tape is all burned up - etc. need some help here from some Horbart guys! Thanks for any help

Reply:Yes - it was the nozzle.I really believe you are probably right about the above - as we used to say in Europe - if it was made in France - it was assambled after lunch (wine).  I will check it out tmorrow - will take it by the dealer - good people.   There were no extra parts like the 'keeper'.  Must have screwed up on the assambly. Thanks - did not think of such a thing - think as all items off an assambly line are perfectly assambled!

Reply:You know, I saw the same thing on a HH135 floor model at Tractor Supply.   Being the nosy, mischievous little snot that I am, I started to pull things apart.  When I yanked the nozzle off, I saw a thin piece of double-sided tape, used as a press fitting gasket. That didn't seem right to me.
Reply:Looks like the welders are falling apart as fast as their website did.
Reply:YES, BUT the HoFart factory experts are already in denial over at their FunGoo parent company sponsored web site.First they ignored the post about the fire spitting MIG gun, and today, they are telling a guy who found a brand new MIG gun at TSC held together by sticky tape he doesn't know what he's seeing.Of course, the factory Expert from FunGoo Heavy Handed Industry will be looking int this problem.   After ROCK was vaporized for telling the truth, this expert will probably make his research foray wearing a shade 13 helmet and earplugs.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Talked to the Miller Rep yesterday - turns out the 'tape' is the insulator material between the 'tip' (inside) part of the gun that is electrically hot, and the nozzle that is outside part of the gun and is electrically 'cold'.  All Mug's have this. Seems the gun got so hot inside that it melted the insulation tape and set it on fire!  Since I didn't have the machine with me (I won't see it till this weekend when I go home), we couldn't try it out and see why it did this.  1. Could be that I didn't check the politary on the gun - I assumed the factory would set it to match the fluz-core wire that they sent with it.  We checked a machine on the floor and it was set up for gas & solid wire - even though it had flux-core wire.  2. Or, it could be the machine malfunctioning - sure gave great weld beads before it turned into a torch)!  Maybe it's because it was running like a 250 instead of a 135.The dealer said that another customer came in with the same thing the day after I came in.  They had never seen the problem before and wanted me to bring the machine back so they could check it out with the rep there.  Good service -  they're bending over backwards to help me and to make sure this isn't a bigger problem so they can fix it (if need be) on other machines coming out.Still think the factory (Canadian) had a hand in it - if nothing more than not setting them up properly out of the box (customer friendly). Will check back next week when I know for sure what the problem really is.
