This is on my local CL and I have wanted one for a while. Is this a good price for a used one? I don't have any other info on it yet. Waiting to hear from the guy. And is there anything to check other than welding with it to make sure it works?I think they run around $300 new, so $100 may not be bad. Thanks in advance guys. Cam Attached Images
Reply:Thats the going price for a good used ac only buzzbox. Offer him 75.
Reply:I'm going to give a guy $125 for one tomorrow, but that's more about the accessories than anything else. Pounds and pounds of welding rods.$100 is not bad, but if it's just the box I agree that $75 would be better.
Reply:$100 is pretty good. Around here they're sitting around $175-$225 for the newer ones; $100 now and again. I took mine for $160 trade for gear so that worked for me.Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand

Reply:The guy called me. In the picture it looks like the cables are cracked pretty bad, so I asked. He said there were a bunch of cracks. So I passed. I know the cables are not cheap and I have seen nicer machines on CL lately for a few more dollars. I'll snag one pretty soon. Thanks for the help all....Cam.

Reply:Hell, I just gave one away a few weeks ago. All the cables, stinger, clamp, and plug needed replaced. I figured those items all together would cost more than the welder was worth. I gave it to a guy down the street. I told him if he wanted to fix it up he could have it. Needed a paint job too.My name's not Jim....
Reply:Lowes had them new for about $260. So don't go too high dollar on a used one.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:Based on my early experience with this welder, it is a very practical and capable welding power source wtih a proven history and is suitable for a wide variety of stick welding projects. Miller also had a classic buzz box like this back in the 80's, don't know the history but I think they've be out of production for many years, but the Miller had the benifit that the amperage was contiuously adjustable via a hand crank, vesus the stepped range selector on the Lincoln "tombstone".If you get an AC buzz box like the Lincoln AC225, try 6013 for a general purpose all position rod, also good for light gauge material, 6011 if you feel the need for deep penetration all position but much rougher surface finish, 7014 for very smooth flat position and horizontal fillet welds, and crank up the heat for smooth as butter flat welds with 7024.
Reply:Thanks Pulser. I have a little 110 Miller mig that I love, but I thought I'd buy one of these for building heavier stuff like welding tables, Metal saw horses and other heavier projects. I am really debating if I should even invest in one because I am most definitely buying a new Miller 212 in January of next year. That machine should weld everything I will ever need it for. I was curious about the different rod selections though. I have been reading everything on here about stick welding and really want a go at it. I have used one briefly when I worked for a water well drilling Co. and I was surprised at how easy and smooth it was.Cam.Last edited by cnyeco1; 09-16-2010 at 02:41 AM.If John Wayne would have been a welder, he would have used Miller welders!!!
