Auto tink mask acts funny on AC

Just tried welding a few beads on aluminum for the first time tonight, and the freakin welding mask sometimes does not tint?  Its brand new cheaper one, works fine on DC welding, but when in AC on alu, it wont go sometimes, so I put the sensitivity to max, and it will tint when I look at a light, and almost all the time it will tint when I strike and arc, but the odd time it didn't?  What gives.

Reply:bet your helmet has a fast and slow delay switch, try the other setting also might have a sensitivity setting , try the otherwhen i switched from ac to dc then back i was always playing with itforney f100 220vmiller thunderbolt 225v a/ccampbell hausfield flux welder 115vcraftsman o/a rig(harris)collosal tech plasma cutter 50amp
Reply:I know the auto tint helmets are nice but i have to say i went to a fixed shade helmet with the large 4.5"x5.5" lense and i will never look back at a auto dark helmet for tig welding for the same reason you are having problems with.   The helmet i bought was a jackson and it was like 30 bucks . Very nice lightweight and never needs batteries or charged.
Reply:Thats why I like my huntsman 951P, no batteries to charge, tints everytime, no sensors or dials to play with and If it breaks oh well I'll just have to pick up another one for 20 bucks.

Reply:Some cheaper hoods just get confused on AC. Get a fixed lens, or try for a better hood. Your eyes are important.UA Local 598
