OK, another question from your favorite undertaker. At the risk of sounding like a total "amateur"..........When I was "re-learning" how to weld, i was told to adjust the torch by "opening the gas until the flame just almost quits smoking" ...then add o2 for a netural flame". This worked fine & dandy for a good while. Lately, i think i'm growing impatient !Been practicing my vertical & overhead with the torch, and itseems to me that it's a little easier with more heat.QUESTION: Am I getting "too big fer' my britches", or is it OKto stoke that puddle up and run with it ?I'll be the LAST one to let you down !
Reply:Put the coal to her Marco, just be careful to not melt more than will hang up there by surface tension. You'll know real quick when you got too big for your britches, the puddle will be running down yer torch arm and headed for your britches, burnin like hell all the way.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Personally I would just go with the next size up in tip size. But in general O/A welding is slow, especially when the steel gets thicker.axehind
Reply:Thank's Franz ! . . . .that's what I thought you would say, and i'm happy to hear it....(it gives me confidence). Thanks, also to you axehind....I know going to a bigger tip will give me more heat.....my question was "Should I" ?I'm pretty conservitive, and in no real hurry when it comes to gas welding. It just seemed to me that when I "throttled-up" on thefire, it was easier to maintain & manipulate the puddle.I just don't want to form bad habits...so i thought i'd ask !I'll be the LAST one to let you down ! |
