The project has taken an ungodly amount of time and I still have a ways to go but I thought I would share my project with you guys. Let me know if you have any questions or comments! The Start:The Middle:Almost done (Today):I also put it on the scales and it did a lot better than I thought (including me):Right Front 122 lbsLeft Front 104 lbsRight Rear 127 lbsLeft Rear 120 lbsYou can also see a bit more info and a video at my site www.gixxxerkart.com
Reply:That is a lot of motor behind you! There once was a man from Boston, he rode around in an Austin. His balls hung so low he lost em Looks good all joking aside. What motor was in the cart before yo installed the beast?DAvidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I'm assuming that you are planning on using it for going as straight as possible, very fast. I can't imagine that it would still handle with the agility of a cart, or that there is a class to race it in. But it is a very interesting ride and I volunteer to test drive it for you. Great project, keep us posted.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:Very cool and great job. Installing a 'zuk 600 motor is on my project list. However, this one will go on a Yard dog dune buggy. It should make it scootright along. John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:that is a pretty good balance you got... one question tho... CAN I DRIVE IT?!?!?!?! hehehehe seriously tho... where did you get the motor? i know it came from a GSXR 600, but did you buy jsut the motor or was there a donor bike? just curious as to where i can get my hands on one. i'd really like to get a 'busa engine to trow into a little VW bug (old ones), but i can't find any.later,Andy

Reply:OKAY... i checked out the site and watched the video. i need to make one now! i don't need food or heat in the house. all i need is my electical supply and my welder. that is officially my next project. if i can get the house that i'm looking at buying, it's be perfect. BIG garage... 3 stalls, plus loft and a shed built on the back that's pretty much a fourth and a half extra garage stall. the house needs a little work, but that's easy enough. as long as i have my garage, i'll be happy.later,Andy
Reply:I'd recommend a heat shield between your shoulders and the header. It'll get a bit warm.Should be a fun ride.

Reply:Looks like fun..I had a cart as a kid..Got run over in it.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:This is true. When I was a kid, about 14, my friend and I took a swing set and a bed frame and built a go cart. It had a 1.5 hp gas motor that had a jack shaft in it. We drove it with a chain direct because we didn't have a clutch. When it was done, The steering was backwards. We decided to drive it just to try it out, then fix the steering. Push to start....... Do I need to keep going? Thanks for the memory DavidEdit, I used my Dads Crank to start wisconson drive Lincoln. None of the welds broke. Reply:When I was a kid, I put a 1HP Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engine on a Flexi-Flyer w/ direct belt drive to the rear wheel. Talk about a scary test ride, no clutch!Anyone remember the Flexis? Basically it was a wooden slat snow-sled-type lay down coaster with very thin, hard rubber wheels for dry land use. It had minimum steering and drag brakes. They were very cool for buzzing around. I tried to find a pic and nothing comes up. 1950's era boy's toy stuff.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene

Reply:My first gocart was a riding lawnmower that I strapped a KX250 motor to. I welded the rear axel together with a sprocket in the middle connected to the motor via a 7' chain. I had to dice up the expansion chamber and reweld it on the opposite side 1" water pipe running out the bottom of the seat. I used the deck heigth arm as the shifting linkage. Never got to the brakes, kill switch or throttle(just used a rope). Unfortunatley, after all these years, I only have one crappy photo of it. From what I can remember, it took me about 30 hours to build when I was 17 or 18 years old. Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
