Weld Table (Platen ?)

I have the option to purchase some HD welding-fabrication tables. Platen Table?Are they worth the HIGH cost....one table is 5x5 the other 5x8  what are they worth?Thanks,EDV
Reply:That depends on how much money you have to spend!They are heavy, expensive, but nice to use. Spatter won't stick if they are grey iron.Personally I like to be able to tack to a table on occasion and I never count on a table to be plane, ever.Have better things to spend my very little money on as well...[B]Forever learning[B].

Reply:depends on what you do. For the hobbyist prolly not. For people doing some serious projects, or commercial work YESthe commercial shops I've been in didn't joke around we had numerous types of fixturing tables.
Reply:No fixtures....I understand they range 125-175.    Cant remember brand....made in PA...What is a 5x5 worth$$$$ or 5x8

Reply:$ 125 - $ 175 for the table tools....He is wanting $ 1500 for the 5x5 table and $ 2000 for the 5x8 and yes I checked the brand ACCORN.... Seemed expensive....
Reply:Also have a chance to buy Plasma Cutter ESAB 875 ?   looks very well used...former shop owner wants $ 900   I wasnt real impressed with the cut quality...cutt some 1/2 (rough cut)....tried some 3/4  had to make a few passes...    Woud like to buy something used in better looking condition...Suggestions??

Reply:McMaster-Carr has a heavy duty "machine table" rated to hold 35,000 (don't know what you would ever put on it that weighs that much) in many sizes and heights; they have a 48" x 48" with a 1" thick top for $1,821 or a 60" x 30" with a 3/4" top for $1,298.  They have medium duty tables with 3/16" tops for $300 to $400.  They are an excellent on line retailer to deal with, very good selections and very good pricing.
Reply:I know this is an old thread, but I am trying to find out what a 5' X 5' X 3"(solid) platen table is going for these days. Brand is unknown, but this is the solid platen, not the webbed ones. Weight is unknown, other than it took 2 forklifts to get it off my trailer. Reply:well around here scrap steel is $220 a ton right now so anything over that price is a starting spot.    If it was mine i would want at least $1500 for it minimumVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
