I was looking for Hobart but my usual shop had this or Lincoln. I paid $28.21 for a 33 pound spool of .035.The box says Weldmark, IWDC, Indianapolis, IN by Grytgols Bruk AB Sweden. Conforms to EN 440-G3Si1, AWS/ASME SFA5. 18-79. Class ER70S-6The shop guy said that wire is being rationed in some parts of the country so I got a 2nd roll. The Lincoln wire was about $13 higher. I figured I couldn't go wrong with a Swede.
Reply:rationed????? i believe he was right! just paid over $40 for a 10 lb spool of flux core in .045.......WTF?it never hurts to look, unless they`r WELDING!
Reply:the only good thing to come out of that country is the girlies !g.d. i miss that chick !!dawg (knock your slag off and clean it too !)
Reply:Mike, I have used Weldmark ER70S6 .023 for a while and have had good results with it.Chris
Reply:from what i've heard, ESAB's flux-core wire isn't to good, i didn't get good fusion results using lincoln's NR-211, i use E71T-GS now, it's a generic wire i got a good deal on online, but when i get some more wire, i am going to try hobart's WeldIt. Always heard positive reviews on it..StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:vipermanz, I have seen some very discouraging posts on other boards regarding the Weld-It line. Namely that it is outsourced to unknown manufacturers with unknown chemistry. I would proceed with alot of caution!Good LuckChris
Reply:at least it's assembled in the USA

Reply:I use Hobart FabCO XL-71. It's a dual-shield wire that I find to be better than anything else I've tried. (Lincoln, ESAB, Pro-star)
Reply:i think i am using a generic fabshield 21 right now .035, but i am going to .030 next timeStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:Most of the complaints about Weld-It are from people who do not use it. It is made for Hobart to their specifications. My spool of .023 is made in Italy.Miller Model 88Miller MM210Hobart HH187Longevity Tigweld 200EXLongevity Forcecut 42iVictor O/A

Reply:I don't want to hijack a thread here, but since you guys are taking about wire, I have a couple of newbie questions. I have been stick welding for 30 years but just got my first wire machine (Farmhand 135) which can do both Mig and flux core - 030 and 035 for now) I have just been picking up wire where I can find it for a good price, but is there a particular flux core wire that would work best on somewhat dirty metal? It seems that I sometimes have trouble getting penetration - the beads just want to ball up and don't stick (almost like solder without flux). Any suggestions?Hey! Bring the camera...Is it still hot? $%#^%^# Guess so...
Reply:i use e71t-gs wire myself, do you have your machine set correctly for fcaw?, your manual should help confirm thisStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:I believe so... I set everything up like the book said.It works well if the metal is really clean - maybe I'm just spoiled from stick welding - just burn through the junk...Hey! Bring the camera...Is it still hot? $%#^%^# Guess so...

Reply:Yeah, I get that... That's why I got a smaller machine. I mainly wanted the wire for making body modifications, exhaust work and light tubing work. I have done stick for so many years that I can do things with it that a lot of amateurs only imagine, but I coulnd't make it do body panels (even tried one of those stupid Eastwood stitch welders - they suck). For general all-around welding, I use the US Forge rods they sell as "Steel." I'm not even sure exactly what they are, and Louisville Welding Gas sold me some Lincoln (I think 7018 AC) sticks that are supposed to be the same thing, but they don't compare.Anyone have a clue what those US Forge rods actually are? They weld like crazy - in any position through any stuff... and are actually somewhat good as far as tensile strength is concerned.I would like to find a place to buy them in bulk instead of those silly little plastic packs. And, I'll look for some of that E7-1T-GS wire. Is there a place that sells it online, or where might I look locally? What is the brand name on the stuff?Hey! Bring the camera...Is it still hot? $%#^%^# Guess so... |
