Hey yall...For those who dont really know me on here, im 17, and a high school welding student. A couple of my friends and I scrap alot of old farm equipment from around my place, and a few local farmers who are just trying to get rid of the stuff. Ive amassed a few good 3pt hitches and a pile of pins, and a fair bit of old angle iron, channel, etc that ive saved off of stuff.I really wanna make something out of it, and im wondering what kinds of equipment yall have made in the past, and managed to make money off of... I have my tombstone, chop saw, a couple grinders and a torch, a few other various tools, and a lot of free time on my hands. Ive got virtually no overhead, since im working out of my moms garage, and i could make most of this from steel i got for free, or next to it. I can sandblast and paint, and get most of this stuff to clean up pretty well.Any ideas? Im thinking of grader, box blades, and boom poles for starters. Im sure someone has been where i am now, and could help me out a little here...  Thanks guys [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:I built a Fence roller/stretcher years ago for dads tractor. Worked great, he still uses it when he has to. Attached ImagesYou have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Albert Einstein
Reply:Pretty tough right now to make a decent buck at it. the equipment yards around here are flooded with shops and welders calling for work. Most of the stuff is selling for less than it's worth to flip the switch on the welder.Maybe ask around and see if anyone needs something built custom or some small repair work. Problem usually is that anybody with any real money just goes down and buys it at the green and yellow shop.Look around here and see some of the tools and stuff guys have made and add to your own collection.AlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:jackstands HD,tubing bender, portable lift, tire remover, chainsaw mill, press, try put your self together a hydraulic powerpak from used pump+spiders+valves, do it nice as you may have for a long time
Reply:If you have nothing but some time invested in it I would say go for it the guy at work made his own box blade and rake for his tractor turned out pretty well. Just takes  alittle time to get the hitch configuration  right but it would be a learning curve for you and if you brake even on time a materials you will be ahead with the knowledge you learned. I started out the same way building stuff and alot of the prokects I started I barly made enough to buy rods and put fuel in the welder but I learned from it. Millerwelds.com has some great pictures of homemade projects and farm equipment.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:Personaly, I'd stay away from trying to make, and sell, any type of lifting equipment like a 3pt boom/gin pole.  There is liability involved in doing this.  People always try to lift more than they're designed to lift."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
