I have done a ton of towing with my new dually. However I feel the stock hitch is lacking big time in the strength department. So after having a trailer pop off last week (empty) and just about rip the safety chains out of the eyelets. Its time for something stronger.Looked at the local farm supply for a nice 2 5/16" ball. The only ones they had rater at 10,000 lbs were 1 1/4" shank. Which required one of their 12,000 receiver pieces. Which required a 2 1/2" receiver, not a 2" which is standard. So that meant it was time to cut off the stock tube and weld in something bigger with some big rings to hold the chains and brake away cable. Here is the stock piece. Tube is good quality, but the rest is only 3/16" plate and tube. As you can see I bent the ears down when I lost that trailer.Flame cut some 3/8" plate.Welded in some 3" x 1/4" tube. That is all for today. I have to go pick up some rings tomorrow. Also the best part was. I can't take the receiver setup off the truck without taking the bed off! So I detached the bumper to give me enough room to work.Patriot Performance AutoLincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln AC-225 StickVictor Journeyman O/AQuincy QT-5 Compressor
