Daytona MIG

I'm new to welding, and this forum, and appreciate any advice you could offer.  I've read a few of the recommended books on welding and want to start fabricating parts for my track car.  I'm looking for a MIG welder and possibly a plasma cutter.  I've heard good things in the press about Daytona MIG (www.daytonamig.com) machines (I think they are made by Ceborra), but haven't heard any feedback from actual users. I'm interested in their Fab155 (220V, with 28-155 A output).  Any opinions, or alternate machines?   I did a search on this forum, but didn't find much.  Their prices look very competitive, and they are very helpful to the newbie on the telephone.  Plus their N250 plasma cutter looks nice.Thanks,Ian
Reply:Really the only way you can find out is to give the machine a test run on what you normally weld. It only works well for you when you have a supportive dealer.StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:I had an italian mig welder for a while- I didnt like it. Had to cut a hole in the side and bolt on a fan, otherwise it overheated all the time. Buy a miller or a lincoln. They work, you can get parts or service anywhere, and they have good resale.You will be much happier in the long run.
Reply:My younger brother has a Daytona Mig welder  he has never tried it out so far as he bought it used and it was pretty much a basket case. I have looked it over a little one evening and made the following observations about it. The one he has I don't remember the size of right now but it was only made to weld using it as a mig welder, in otherwords could not run fluxcore with it. I felt that was a deffinate drawback to it in case you wanted to use it outdoors or use flux core for better penetration. The second thing I noticed about it was that the consumables used on it I have not saw any readily available anywhere locally. I guess that would be Ok if you always kept several extras on hand, but I like the fact that with either the Lincoln's,Hobart's, or the Miller's you can walk into about anyplace that sells anytype of welding supplies such as Tractor Supply. I don't have to wait around for a few days waiting on some to be shipped in. I did contact a supplier for the Daytona Mig welder to check on getting info on the welder and info on consumable's. The person I contacted was great to visit with and was interested in selling me consumable's etc. for the welder. He was unable to supply me with an owners manual for it though. I do know if I went onto Hobarts site and wanted to get a owners manual for my welder it would be no problem. I would have one printed out and in my hand in less then 5 minutes.I don't know anything about their plasma cutters but I do know if you go into Atwoods you will probably find consumables for Hobart Plasma cutters on hand.
