I saw this ad on CL - http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/bar/2114964260.htmlI have a 10' box plow I could offer for trade. I don't use it and was planning on selling it anyway.Questions - 1. Anybody have this welder, Lincoln Invertec V350? How do you like it? 2. How does this compare to a Miller XMT?3. How does it compare to my Shopmaster?4. Do you think this would be a fair trade?5. Any easy ways of telling if the unit was stolen?6. Any problems with these units?7. How is the reliability of an inverter as opposed to my Shopmaster?I was thinking if I got it I could then get rid of my Shopmaster. V350 goes up to 425A and it's only around 80 lbs. I know I would lose AC, but honestly I've used it once, in all the years I've had it and that was just to try out a certain electrode. Or maybe I will just keep them both, because my Shopmaster was one of the last two in the Miller wharehouse because they discontinued them. And it has very little use compared to one from a welding business. And it still looks like brand new, so I won't let it go "for nothin". I don't know if the guy will even go for the deal, but I figured I would get some input here and then try."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:If you have single phase power, the V350 will put out 425 amps, while the XMT304 or XMT350 will put out only 300 amps.   My understanding is that otherwise, the V350 is very similar to the XMT.   So it is all about whether or not you need more than 300 amps. The shopmaster only puts out 325 amps on DC, less on AC, much less than 425 amps from the V350.  The shopmate, a later model, puts out 400 amps. The XMT series is more common than the V350, at least on the used market.  As far as I can tell, both have a good reputation.RichardSculptures in copper and other metalshttp://www.fergusonsculpture.comSyncrowave 200 Millermatic 211Readywelder spoolgunHypertherm 600 plasma cutterThermal Arc GMS300 Victor OA torchHomemade Blacksmith propane forge

Reply:The company I work for owns several Lincoln Invertec V350 Pros and IMO these machines are extremely versatile and reliable.  These machines run FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW quite well but our maintenance man strongly recommends that they not be used for carbon arc gouging. They run pulse mode very well and IMO are easier to dial in than a powerwave 355m or 455m.  The V350 Pros are also very durable and withstand a lot of abuse given by our younger weldors that don't respect a good tool. Our manitenance man has replaced one pc board in the three years I've worked there, but I remind you that these machines are abused.  They are ran 20 - 24 hours a day, sprayed with air arc slag, dropped of carts, and tipped over off of fork lifts.
Reply:we burned up two of the V350's but that was doing some pretty heavy FCAW welding.   They did have a very nice arc till we let the magical smoke out of them though.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I certified on that machine. They are top of the inverter line from Lincoln and are loaded with lots of programs for a wide range of processes. Head to head with an XMT, I would give the nod to Lincoln. City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Reply:We run quite a few of them in power plant construction.  They're very rugged and reliable.  We've had pouring rain come down on them, and they still functioned without a hitch.  The only problems we've had thus far with the V350's and the 25M feeders have been cheap rental control cables.
Reply:Sorry guys, I didn't get much input when posted and now this item is gone."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!!
