Strange ball mount

I have not seen one of these weight distributing models before, but I get to fix it! The first thing I said was, "This ball is worn out!" The boss says, "Yeah we know, the customer knows too, he just wants us to replace the clips." So I asked the next obvious question, "We aren't going to warranty this are we?" "No.", came the response. ....Fine. One busted clip, go ahead and change them both. What do these things do, anyway, I wonder! The new peices...This needs to go quick, the guy is waiting, so only a couple pics of the first clip mounted and the next will be the same. No job too small to bust my chops I suppose.Obviously they simply hold the weight distributing bars in place, but that's all they could hold! Reply:I was 'mobile' for quite a number of years. Ran a stabilizer hitch nearly identical to this one. No quite, but very close. They are amazing. I learned to run mine a little loose to save on the kidneys.
Reply:Yes. We sell them and set them up all the time. In fact we have those El Dorado pics in our front store!  I simply never saw this type before! Weird stuff, and designed so that little pin has to be welded to that hulking cast steel mount! A little heat input misbalance if you ask me!! Oh we routinely put some pressure on those bars! Don't even think about letting them slip out of your grasp before they land home either!!!  It took some time to wrap my mind around the concept, for sure. City of L.A. Reply:Just wait till you are in a pinch with one of the chain loaded stabilizers and you have to lock it up with a loaded trailer, ouch.
Reply:Ah, the ball is not not in upside down the entire hitch is.  How did they manage to hook it up like that?Me!
Reply:I had that in our bench receiver upside down while I worked on it. We handed it back to the customer over the counter and let him deal with it! I need to get a copy of that El Dorado pic!
