Has anyone around here thrown together a shooting bench?  I am thinking of making one for all of the Prairie dogs around here and was just wanting to see what others have done.  Thanks, Matt
Reply:yep, I've built several of them.  I'm actually working on one mounted on a trailer that spins 360 degrees for a trip out west next year.  Here is a quick pic of one like I built for my shooting range.  I have to replace the top on it this afternoon, and I'll get some more detailed pics of it, and post them tonight. Reply:All right we are on the same page.  That is what I am looking at is one on a trailer that spins.  So you can get all of the little fellers all around you.  And then you can just pull it on down the pasture to a new crop of prairie dogs.  Matt
Reply:Send me some prairie dogs and I will send you a shooting bench.  All we have are woodchucks here.  Not too many of em.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Well we don't have woodchucks...I don't know if the dogs will hold up in a box at all.  I have just a 70 acre pasture and there are enough to keep you busy for a while.  Well it is blowing 40mph right now so I am not shooting any, just getting ideas..  Matt
Reply:My bench on the trailer is going to be basically the same as the one pictured but it will be mounted with a 3.5" pipe in the center, and the trailer will have a 3" pipe upright in the middle.  So that the bench can slide down over 3" pipe, and spin.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Well that sounds simple enough.  Thanks, Matt

Reply:Well with all of that wind is the snow....  So ...No... I cannot see far enough and I don't think any will be out..  Matt
Reply:I completed this one last fall and am getting ready to test it out. I am in Montana so we have the dogs aplenty. It is not portable as I wanted stability, most comercial units are flimsy. It features tree legs with large adjustable feet to maintain level. The entire unit rotates and the seat will adjust for height. The top adjusts for angle if shooting from hilltops. I wish I had better pics, may haul outside this weekend. Attached Images

Reply:rhammen, nice uhit, but I see one problem.  You need a leg under that seat of some sort.  I one I built very similar to yours years ago, and once I sat in it and started to spin it would dump you on the ground.  Trust me you don't want a rifle and all the stuff on the table landing on top of you.  when it goes over.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:A good point from Hammack_Welding, however I realized that in design. The pictures are not very good but the legs are almost three foor long and at a low angle, 2x2x1/4 box. The seat support is fairly short. I tried very hard and was unable to even lift a leg no matter how fast or hard I spun.  I knew it would be important as my gopher shooting partner will always try to make a dog blow up while in my sights! I knew I would have to spin quickly, acquire the target and shoot before he got on it. Of course I do try to do the same to him!
Reply:That green bench reminds me a bit of the BR Pivot bench I used to own. Sadly, I sold it to finace another project. I would say the BR Pivot is the finest portable bench out there, pricy though at about $500 or more. Nice work there, looks excellent.BrentLincoln 3200HD MIGLincoln AC/DC 225 Stick

Reply:Very nice project rhammen.  I was wondering if you would be willing to share some dimensions etc so that I might make one as well....I am curious what you used to make it swivel.  Did you use bearings....what is the dimention of the table and the upright pipes?
Reply:I don't know if it's cool or not to steal an idea from another website and post it here but I found this shooting bench. I don't know if this is what you are looking for but this is one method that others have used. Reply:Yeah your right....we should sensor what we have on here so that everyone has less information......Joker....I think your a little sensitive....looks like more than 3 design aspects have changed.....and its also not a protected item.....do your legal homework before you speak up....."Br man"......compare those "vise grips" with your Chinese nock offs.  I wonder how they are allowed to do it.....because they can...Ill Pm rhammen instead....I just thought someone else would be interested.....Oh well..........By the way nice family photo of you and your brother at the paintball range Joker.
Reply:Or you get to a better elevation and do some diplomacy with th p dogs ole fashion way.
