Uses for old mig welder

Anyone have any cool ideas for an old mig welder I have laying around. I wonder if its possible to build a little buzz box out of it? The power supply works. I am missing the gun and motor control is fried. Could I just hook up an electrode holder   along with the ground cable that is still there and make a arc welder?
Reply:Sorry won't work atleast not easily.   MIG is constant amperage where stick is constant voltage.  There may be some way to rewire the transformer and controls but beats the heck out of me how it would be done if it is even possible without having to replace 90% of whats in there.
Reply:I love collecting other peoples junk, hint hint.  Seriously, don't know if it's possible  to convert CC to CV.  What machine is it? And yeah, a MIG (and TIG)is also an arc welder. Sorry, I'm a stickler on that front.
Reply:You can use CV source for stick, but it is a quite different arc, and not easy to control. I wouldn't bother.

Reply:Welder is an older Import model made by telwin. It's totally not worth fixing, but I'm like 99% of the other people on this board and can't bear to part with anything that might be of useful sometime within the next 25 years. Just a thought. Thanks
Reply:You can hook it up to a wire feeder and run it like that.  I'm doing that with a MM35 and an Aircomatic Mighty II.
Reply:I agree with the post that smaw and gtaw are constant current/ constant amperage, and that mig/ flux are both constant potential/ constant voltage.  If I was you though and its a wire feed machine, I'd find a way to make it run as a wire feed.  They are much too expensive to buy one outright if you dont have to.  Stick machines can be bought much cheaper so if thats what your wanting your better doing it that way and waiting till you have more need or desire for wire.  just my two cents
