Welder Any Good?

Hey Guys,I've got a chance to buy a Lincoln Ideal Arc stick/TIG machine.  It is a 220v/250 amp machine.  It is a scratch arc machine, and does not have high-frequency, so no foot control, and no welding aluminum.  Is this machine worth getting?  I am not a TIG welder, but, would like to learn.  I would be using the machine to weld roll-cages/chassis on drag cars.  I currently use a MIG machine, but would like to learn TIG so that I can weld chromemoly.  The price is right on this machine, but I have no idea if the machine would be worth it for what I am wanting to do.  The guy selling it says that Lincoln sells a converter box to make it high-frequency.  Are these worth the hassle?  About what do they run dollar-wise?  Thanks for any assistance,Later,Maxx Levell Racing...There Can Be Only One.
Reply:It is a good machine and Lincoln does sell a high freq unit I think anywhere from 700-1000 dollars, not sure on the amount.  If you plan on doing a lot of Tig welding you might want to consider a machine with the freq unit built in already.  Once you add the separate price of the freq unit to the price of this machine, you may already be in the same price range of an all in one machine.  Check it out and see.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:Thanks for the reply....that's what I'm afraid of.  The guy is asking $700 for the machine, but I think I can get it for less.  Another $700-$1000 puts me in the range for a decent all in one machine.  I'm going to look at it, but not sure if I'm going to buy it.  I may just wait.  I think I'd rather have an all in one machine.Later,Maxx Levell Racing...There Can Be Only One.
