After seeing sixshooters bed it got mi mind going into building my own the original bed for my truck is sitting there waiting to be tore into. I need advice on how to brace it up and how to weld the top plate to the original one I need all the input I can get thanks
Reply:That bed was chopped a few inches (4-5 roughly) above the actual floor of the bed. The machine actually set on the factory bed and everything else is raised about 5'' or so above that. Then channel iron is run across the top of the factory bed much like any other bed you would see with the top welded to that. Where the top of the bed is mounted to the factory sides it was riveted all the way around. That bed also mounted up just like your factory bed does...6 bolts in stock location. It had a gooseneck hitch welded into it so I personally think the plate would need to be beefed up and welded/bolted directly to the frame rails if your going to hook to anything stout. Wouldn't be hard to do at all though. The boxes were 6" deep with deep pockets on the back side that went down and were hidden within the dually fender. Made for a lot of extra storage over a simple 6" deep box. A lot of the bed was just factory metal welded to the 10 Ga. the bed was made of without a whole lot of additional bracing. (some of course) but I don't believe it was made to be a super heavy duty bed...more of a Trick setup with weight savings in mind. Hope this helped some, I didn't have it real long because I decided to take my time and build one myself. But if you have any more q's I'll do my best to answer them. Good luck with it and take progress pics for us to see!
