I am looking to make a very small bbq trailer, it should be very light weight, and not too big.  I have a lincoln MigPak 100 (think that's the model) flux core machine.  I have some rectangle tubing, 1/8" thick, or maybe a little less, and the axle will be bolted on (has springs on it too). The machine is rated up to 3/16".  I have done a few small projects, and had welding back in school, so don't think my ability will be too much of a problem.  I am just concerned if my welder has enough umph to it.
Reply:the 3/16 rating is just on single-pass. i would be willing to put money down that if you properly bevel the edges, use good technique, and be sure to clean the slag/flux out between each weld bead, you should have a good strong joint. just crank the heat up on your machine (D?) and turn your wire down, just below the "hammering point". that should be your hottest arc that you can get. make sure your ground is good and you should be all set.Later,Andy
Reply:I figured it would be enough, but I wanted to check with the experts.  I got a large amount of free metal from Tractor Supply, was a huge pallet for something, I am sure this will be heavy duty enough.  I have an idea for a pretty light trailer, and not too big pit. Thanks for the info, I can't wait to get started.  If this works, it will be an almost free project.
Reply:Your welder should be fine as long as you clean all the joints and bevel them. Should be a fun project. Post up some pic's when you get started.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:I have a Weldpak 100 and it will get the job done. The thing is actually pretty handy for some things. I just use mine on little dinky jobs.
Reply:If you are going to use the trailer for commercial use you may have some issues / hassle with getting it registered depending on your states laws. Homemade = no title, no title =  at the registry of motor vehicles...Me!
Reply:It is capable of doing what you want.  Using flux cored wire will help on thicker materials.  I have one as well, and it does come in useful.  The only problem I could see would be the duty cycle.   It won't take long to shut down from over heating when doing alot of welding.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:New Mexico is the same way. As long as they get the money. They do inspect them now. That means they walk out the door where thay can see its a trailer an that's all they care about.
Reply:Thanks for all the info.  I am looking forward to getting started on this.  I hadn't really thought about titling.  Kind of important.  I think the other posters were correct about Texas.  But just to be safe, I'll call the tax office before I get started.
