Iam new to mig welding and to the site. Just wondering if a lincoln weld pak 15  or a lincoln 3200hd or a lincoln sp-175 plus can weld without using gas?? Iam planing to get one of these welders. My buddy said its a good for starting out.  Thanks
Reply:Most gas welders can go with flux core wire and weld fine.  Alot of guys say you "Need" gas but it really comes down to how thick the metal is.  I worked in a fab shop that used Co2 and Flux wire together.  The nice thing about flux wire is it is much more forgiving to weld with in a dirty environment.
Reply:All three Lincoln examples are capable of welding with flux cored wire and are fine examples of wire feed machines.  I have a WeldPak 100 set up for flux core and solid wire with gas.  Been having it a number of years and tend to prefer welding flux core with it than solid wire and gas.  Not that it does it better, its just more convient to move from location to location and especially when its windy you dont have to worry about shielding gas being blown away.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:Also with the flux wire I like the way that it welds eventhough you have to chip slag and stuff I just like the way that it welds.
Reply:G'day All.When welding with Flux Cored and using Gas, do you reverse the polarity of the leads like you do for Flux cored without gas.Or do you leave the welder setup for normal gas polarity?Thanks.Hooroo.Regards, TrevorGraftonAustraliaG17. G17AGlock Rulz
Reply:leave it reversed
