Nothing major.Bought one of the Harbor Freight motorcycle chocks recently and it needed some kind of base to stabilize it, as well as tie-down points so I could use it in the garage. I did the welding and made a few modifications, but I "borrowed" the primary design from a guy on the Harley TechTalk forum. I only have 110v capability at the house so I welded these at school one night using a big Miller and spray transfer. I actually managed to drill all the holes correctly (with my Harbor Freight drill press and step drill bits no less!!) and it mated up like it was meant to. I painted it with Rustoleum Black Hammered Finish paint.Last edited by stroker_dave; 03-18-2008 at 08:06 PM.Reason: Misspelling

Reply:I didn't pay much attention to the welding project. Too busy looking at the nice scooter.
Reply:That looks great. Is it bolted to the floor, or can it be moved around?
Reply:a buddie of mine just picked up the same chock in Yuma this winter. Was thinking the same sort of idea to try stabalize it a bit. Thanks for the idealooks like it will work fineMM2123035 Spool Gun

Reply:Thanks for the ideamy buddie that bought the chock in Yuma came over today, and we got to cuttin and weldin, and had a couple scotch, and came up with a carrier to haul his bike in his truck, He bought a couple aluminum ramps that we are going to modify a bit, and he will be able to drive the bike in to the back, and secure it there no problem. We used your idea for mounting the chock, and added a length of 6' channel. Here are a couple pics of the carrier. Attached ImagesMM2123035 Spool Gun
Reply:That worked out sweet for you. By the way: did the chock you bought have many porous welds? Mine isn't bad...there are a few marginal (at best) welds, but last time I was at the Harbor Freight down the road I looked at the chock they had on display and it seemed as if every weld was crap. Oh well...at that price I can grind out and re-do a few welds!
Reply:welds were pretty good on this one, and your right the price was right.thanks againMM2123035 Spool Gun |
