Reply:2'x4' 3/4" at home. 1 1/2" at the shop, that was an auction steal, complete with a 10" vise. No one wanted it because it was so heavy. 3' w x 14' long. Our trackloader barely wanted to lift it off the trailer without tipping.
Reply:I think I will go for the 1/4". My table frame is 26"x44", no where near the 14 footer.ThanksRedneckI have not welded in about 18 years, So I need lots of helpHobart Stickmate AC/DC (Present from my wife)

Reply:Mine are1/2" x 2' x 3'and a 1/2" x 3' x 5'try to go 3/8" at least.
Reply:thicker than 1/4 is better but dam it's expensive
Reply:As thick as you can afford and install!I like skeleton tops, too; really heavy angle iron tops take a lot of fabrication skills to do properly, but once you have it, you have a very stable table with lots of places for clamps.
Reply:We have one 3/4" x 4' x 20' and one 3/4" x 8' x 10'. I would say go for thicker than 1/4". You want to be able to pound on it. We have a little table to pound on that is 2" x 2' x 4'. All of theses tables were bought at auctions. Save some money and try to find an auction near you. You will save a tone of money. We bought the 4' x 20' for $300 because no one wanted to deal with moving it.
Reply:A fabrication table and a pounding table should be two different tables.
Reply:1/2' with plenty of bracing under them have stood up to everything I've thrown at them. 2'x3', 2 1/2'x4', 3'x8', they are all still flat on top.
Reply:I built a cart with a small 1/4 work area. very handy for tacking small stuff together but not flat enough or heavy enough for more than that.Airco 300 squarewaveMig welding center...Powcon sm300/LN 25Powcon sm200/PD lHypertherm PM 1100Miller AEAD 200LE W/LN25 FCand now another sm200 pd l combo.
Reply:Mine is 5/8" 4'x4' because that is what the scrap yard had for $0.30/lb.JimCut an MGB and widened 11" C4 Corvette suspension and LT1 Chevrolet power & 6 spd. Pictures here:Part 1http://forum.britishv8.org/read.php?13,7581Part 2http://forum.britishv8.org/read.php?13,22422
