I'm working on a truck with some very tight spaces to run the exhaust system. I couldn't find a muffler that would fit, so I made a low profile one that will fit in the small space I have to work with. Hopefully it will sound nice. I MIG welded the internals, and TIG welded the outside. Its 16 gauge sheetmetal.Lincoln PowerMIG 215XTLincoln Precision TIG 225Hypertherm 300

Reply:Flow masters are designed similar but with out the packing, from the cut aways I have seen. The packing may deaden to much of the sound. I dont know what sound effect you are going for. I am an old school straight pipe man myself. My truck is a 91 f250 4 wd. with headers and pipes with glass packs installed in reverse.
Reply:I have an 82 1ton 2wd crew cab dually with Flowmasters....I installed glasspacks before the mufflers. It really quieted the tone down. I get good flow and low noise.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:I wanted to keep it quiet. I know Flowmasters don't use a packing material. It had a Flowmaster on it before, and it was pretty loud. Too loud for his wife. I am hoping to produce a similar sound with less noise. Also a quiet exhaust will be best for the vehicle its going on, because it is a cop magnet as it is.Lincoln PowerMIG 215XTLincoln Precision TIG 225Hypertherm 300

Reply:I used to stuff steel wool in the tuned pipes of a yamaha 2 stroke RD350. It would soak with oil and catch on fire flying out the back of the bike. Nice lookin muffler. When I was a kid, I built one for a snowmobile out of 6" pipe. It was pretty loud. Yours looks a LOT better than the one I made. Looks like it will last a long time.I hope you have a water cooled torch.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor. |
