Dear All,May you please explain how we can weld AL using MIG process? In AC TIG welding it is very well clear that the positive half cycle will clean the oxide film formed on the surface and the negative half cycle will do the penetration. How we can clean the oxide film using MIG?Regards.Katani
Reply:It all depends on the polarity one if you run positive no oxide problems it is already taken care of. Pulse you can have AC or DC pulse AC takes care of the oxide. DC aggain depends on the polarity. MIG of AL is touchy it can have a lot of problems with inclusions being oxide or gas pocets. The safest thing to do is clean the weld area just prior to welding it with a clean SS brush this will get rid of most of the oxide. The filler metal can also help in removing oxides through the alloys. The AWS has lots of good articals if you are realy interested go to www.aws.org
