I am trying to be a tight wad I guess I have about two feet left over on each cut of pipe on my fence project . The pipe is about 1 1/8 od  I am cutting the pipe to fit post to post inside . now for that little two feet when I clamp it in angle iron and tack it to another full joint it seems to draw a bit look a little bent In the angle iron I tack it on three sides then remove the clamps and tack the back remove the angle iron and turn it as I weld after I am finished it looks a little off . Help what am I doing wrong are is this just something that happens ? the angle iron is 2x2 3/16 about two feet long .
Reply:In my experience building handrails, it was nescesary to build a jig on a steel table with 2 inch wide angle iron pieces, so that the small diameter pipe will not warp while welding. It will warp like crazy otherwise. When you weld one side, then flip it over, place it back it the jig and weld the other side. Each time make sure it is tacked down good or clamped. Your problem is not at all unusual. I'd recommend using something more sturdy than two feet of angle. Just my best guess.
Reply:Thanks Giter, I even thought about cutting a small block out in the V part so i can get that fourth tack in
