Old dialarc on CL

So I'm looking at this dialarc welder on craigslist and it's about 110 miles. It's 950 dollars wondering if it's worth the trip? http://york.craigslist.org/tls/2154957104.html.   This is the link
Reply:I sold an dialarc to a guy around York with built-in high frequency, etc. for $800 including water cooler, regulator, Wp20 torch etc.Bottom line $900 is a premium for that welder.The Dialarc-HF including solenoids for water (so you can run it off of tap water), and gas, including timers etc.The negative about the Dialarc's is this.  1) range selector.  You need to pre-select the range which makes a bit (just a bit) more difficult to prevent craters at the end of the weld.2) Sine wave machine (as opposed to Syncrowaves) - very difficult to weld thin aluminum with this.  You need larger tungstens to handle the extra heat and you get more wandering of the arc.If you still want the machine, do some reasearch (search Craigslist and Ebay for similar welders - on Ebay look at completed auctions), and use that to back up your offer.  I'd say about 1/2 of the asking price.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX

Reply:Gave $1000 worth of work for mine.got "K" size Argon private owner tank, cooler, Wp20 torch, petal.10-20 lbs Bronze Tig rod, 40-50 lbs steel tig rod, about 5 lbs, aluminum rod. 2 40' heavy welding leads, with 1 ground clamp. guy also said he had an icebox full of welding rod he would give me to get rid of. I thought he meant the small box on top of a refrigerator that makes ice cubes. It was a commercial refer that scrapped at 400 lbs, had 1000 lbs of rod in it with about 1/2 being 3/16" or bigger. About 50 lbs of every common rod in 1/8" , 50 lb. box of unmarked hardface rod. Had to buy yard sale refer for $10 to put about 500 lbs. in for storage.First time I have heard of 7016, also 50 lb box of Beauty weld. All in all was a good deal. I make custom  parts fairly cheap and now and then He kicks something my way, works out for both.

Reply:I agree. I paid $200 for a Dialarc HF with everything included except the cooler. I even got a K tank with it. It was a Craigslist purchase from 60 miles away. The cabinet was rough and it was filthy inside and out, but it welded GMAW both AC and DC when I plugged it in. Some deep cleaning, body work, and a paint job made it Look OK. The TIG torch needed new hoses and I had to build a cooler for it, but have less than $500 total invested, not counting my labor. It more than paid for itself the first week that we had it. I got a very good deal on mine, but they can be had for much less than this guy wants for his. In my opinion, he wants more than 2X the max of what I would pay for it. There are good deals out there. You just have to be patient and keep searching, but be prepared to jump on it when the chance arrives.
