found wilton vise

So Im at my local liquidators buying some steel. as im walking through rows upon rows of used machine equipment, welding equipment, ect. I see a couple of vises sitting over there and since I need A nice BIG vise i decided i would take a look see. What do you know there is a NICE wilton there, needs a little work mostly clean it up and put a new rear pin in. its the Wilton 10026 500S, Machinists' Bench Vise - Swivel Base, 5-in Jaw Width, 8-in Jaw Opening, 4-1/4-in Throat Depthbrand new today its a $900 vise The guy said its yours for $100 and if you dont like it you can always bring it back!!!! pick it up tomorrow when I go and get the matterial! ill post a before clean up and after clean up pics

Reply:I know the guy pretty well so im not to worried. He was telling me a story about some guy last week that tried to buy it and he said he would pay half of what it was worth because of condition. The guy that works there says ok $400 you got yourself a deal. (other guy trying to buy it) says no way I was thinking more like $50 bucks.. Im terrible at telling storys but hopefully it made you all laugh at the guys stupidity.

Reply:I sold a huge vise like that a couple of years ago for $100. That thing must of weighed 70 lbs. or more.   It was too heavy for me to ship when I was moving. I was over weight as it was. I wish I had kept it. I got it off a Navy ship. They threw it away because one of the feet was cracked. I had it fixed in no time.  I'll never get a "real" vise like that again. Too late now.

Reply:Your right, D-rep. M first Wilton was a free one. It was the 4 1/2" one with pipe jaws that's used all over the oilfield and was broken. I watched the roustabout crew break it. It was mounted on the back of a truck and the crew put a joint of 4" pipe in it and attempted to break a tee off the pipe with a 36. No go so they stuck a piece of 2 1/2" tubing about twelve feet long on the wrench for a cheater and two men got on the end. The gang truck had a utility body and an autocrane hoist mounted on it so it was pretty heavy. They were bouncing the front wheels of the truck off the ground for a little bit before the body of the vise broke off the base. The gangpusher removed the base and put both pieces of the vise on my truck and told me if I could fix I would have a good vise. I V-ed everything out and almost 10 pounds of brazing rod later it was fixed. I ground it out and painted it and you would never know it had been broken. I used it for many years and finally traded it off.

Reply:i used to think ppl were crazy for paying big bucks for those big vices, until i needed one...now i know better, that was a great bargain
Reply:I just inherited a wilton from my Grandfathers shop.  Not nearly as large as you mentioned but its still in perfect working order and looks like it will service me for years to come.
