after the tig burns entry, i was wondering what sort of safety concerns that there are with the palsma cutters? what guage/number glasses or shields should you be wearing? thanks.
Reply:I use my Miller Elite helmet, and turn the shade to 9, works great
Reply:I have an 80 amp powcon starcut and use about the same shade (9-10) on a auto darkening helmet. I dont know what the suggested shade is. Seems to be ok. On other safety stuff, I think at least as important is clothing and other possibly flammable things nearby. When I get a little too fast a travel speed with mine, it'll shoot sparks to the top of a 12" roof (@ 80psi). I have also been told that wearing a ring or wedding band (even under a thick glove) can be trouble for fingers when using a plasma cutter. Can someone confirm or deny this (i.e., any lost fingers out there)?Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I also use the # 9 shade setting on my Miller XLi welding hood or often use the dark shield with jackson headgear. Both work fine but I think the hood lends more protection especially to the ears and neck. As far as the ring question I cannot confirm or deny but most older welders I have worked with allways leave thier wedding rings off while working mostly to protect the ring itself. |
