Even thow this is April 14, 08 I actually started this build back in Oct 07.What have I been doing for the past 6 months? Well research, Just to see if this was possible for me to do this build.I made contacts for resources and information. This build was parcely in spired by Fred Heim's and his 1/2 builds.I will post a link to a videoWith one of my resources being my son, who is the lead welder at a local machine shop I picked up my first piece of metal. With the help of one of his co-workers we created a program to have the chassis components burned out on their burn table.   This is a picture of the parts laid out in my driveway.Later I took those parts to a welding company and had the parts bent to my specs.
Reply:The 10' long X 1/4 thick plate bent to make my frame rail channel. Here is the Crossmembers now bent into channelsAnd These 5 pieces will make up a crossmember gusset. This is a gusset mocked up in position. This is a picture of a real gusset from a truck I took a picture of this past winter.I think it looks kinda close to a real one LOL
Reply:Wow, that is cool! Thank you for the pics and Cheers!
Reply:That's waaaay sharp! Hows about posting some detailed pics of that Cat loader your avitar shows..........pleeeease.......??Yeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
Reply:It ain't even done yet and I want one.
Reply:The ultimate "Tonka" truck.  a 1/2 scale Semi.  Man, as a younger kid, I would have died for one of them!I used to work in a shop that spliced framerails together.  You're half size frame rails look dead on!
Reply:good luck with the build....definitely a neat project -Graham-Mechanical EngineerAutosport Mechanic/Fabricator
Reply:Thanks guys for the kind words. This is my goal for this summer, is to get the chassis done. Here is a drawing of were I want to be by the end of Sept
Reply:The engine is a 96 hp. 4 cylinder Isuzu diesel engine. It will be painted up to look like a C15 CAT engine LOL.  The drive axels will be 2 narrowed chevette axels. Not quite sure if the first drive axel will be under power. It just may end up serving as a hanger bearing for the rear drive.
Reply:I guess some of you are wondering were the hell I got this hair brain idea to build this thing. As I mensioned in my opening post I got some of my insperation from Fred Heim.

Reply:The differance between my Pete and the one Fred Heim's built is Mine will have the 127" hood. So in half scale my hood will be 63.5" long. And I will have a sleeper bunk on it too.http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...t=09f20ed1.pbwIf you didn't watch the video. I'll tell ya.  The loader is Radio Controled. And it's built of mogogany. Reply:That is unreal. I can't imagine how much $ he has in those.
Reply:Some of that gear is bigger than actual, full size equipment. It's just bizarre.
Reply:whats is mogogany
Reply:That is amazing.
Reply:This is too much for words . Fantastic . I wish my late Father could have seen your 1/2 scale equipment. He sure loved the real thing .[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:Ironman is yours going to run?If so what are you using for motor, tranny, axles etc?

Reply:that is awesome. That kind of talent is inspiring. good luck ironman and keep us posted. g
Reply:Fred's done some amazing work. Please keep us posted on your project it looks very interesting. I'll definately be keeping an eye on this thread. Thanks fo the pics!If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Swells, Don't get any "big" ideas!
Reply:That Hiem guy is insane, wow, his wife must nag like crazy to the point that he doesn't wanna leave the shop I just don't have the patience for something like that, but it is truly amazing
Reply:Dude, half scale of something really big is bigger than a small one. Think planets... a half scale Jupiter is bigger than Mars, but they're both planets. So a small bulldozer (as driven by full size people) is much smaller than a half scale model of a really big bulldozer. What's needed is a little monkey in a hardhat that knows how to run those pieces of equipment.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Nice!I have a friend of mine in the  Annapolis Valley, here in Nova Scotia,  who built a "Mini Kenworth".   I'll see if I can grab some pics and post them up. Reply:Thanks again guys for the awesome support.@ Mog. I don't want argue with you or clutter up my threat explaining 1/2 scale.@ Denrep  Yes I'am going with "air-leaf suspension"I didn't think of that, Mini truck axels is  good idea. I'll have to check that out further. I'm not familar with Tug Tractors. Are they garden tractors? I have to be concerned with the strangth of the drive train to. eh? This thing is going to be a lit'l smaller than a Mazda p/u truck and all steel. I'm heading to Toronto Ont. this weekend for the Truck World truck show w/my son. On our way I want to stop into a nearby pick N pull wrecking yard I'll see what they have for mini trucks, and I'm also going to look for Lincolns for air bags.Wouldn't that be sweet if they had built those mini trucks w/drop I beam front axels. It would have made this build it lit'l easier.Thx for the tip Denrep
Reply:Here is a little video of what my build is modeled afterThis is the Limited Edition 379X approximately only 1000 builtProduction started Sept 2003 till Dec 2004Obviously my truck will be 1/2 this size. Last edited by Ironman; 04-17-2008 at 10:33 AM.

Reply:Thanks for the pics Ironman.....KennyYeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
Reply:What about the axles from a clark aircraft tow tug, they also used them to pull baggage carts, they have good gears and good brakes and are already narrowed.
