Hi guys, thinking about making a garden bench, black painted metal legs and a timber top I've got various lengths and sizes of box section inc. 50mm sq, 80mm sq, 100mm sq, and I've been given by my boss some pretty heavey duty floor joists from our old factory. The trouble is I've had a bit of a mental block as regards design, so any ideas/pics etc? would be most gratefull for any input.
Reply:Heres one to give you an idea. Attached Images
Reply:This one was commisioned by the Ride on Center for Kids. The legs and arm rest were made from extended lambs tongues and the seat support and back rest were of metal I bent. It was very easy and simple to build but made for an attractive bench. Hope it gives you an idea, Bob
Reply:thanks for the pics Bob thats a nice looking bench you made there, How did you bend the metal for th arms?I.ve actually started mine now, I've gone for a much more basic design. I've taken some pics during the build and hope to finish by the weekend, I'll resize and post all the pics then.
Reply:The arm and leg sets were made out of extended lambs tongues welded together and then bent to shape cold.A lambs tongue is the little curve and swoop at the bottom of stair hand rails. These are just the long version. You can get them at King Architectural Metals. If you dont have a catalog you should get one,its invaluable. The extended lambs tongues make excellent table legs as well.
Reply:Heres a couple of tables using the extended lambs tongues as table legs. Bob Attached Images
Reply:Very excellent. What are the legs fabbed out of and if I could inquire as to how you formed them? Beautiful work and I also am partial to stone. Reply:I would guess that the legs are formed from the top handrail for steps.Very nice work BTW. I was thinking of posting some "iron" tables I made for my cousin as a wedding present, but I haven't found the picts I took years ago. I'll have to keep looking. |
