I want to be able to do some mig or welding like making a boat dolly or  making some fence panels is anything at harbors suited for this type of work

Reply:I have the 240-volt HF machine model 94164, and it can do an acceptable level of hobby welding. I say that as someone who also has an Ironman 230 and a Maxus 180 (Campbell Hausfeld). I have the HF because they go on sale cheap, and I'm a little bit of a tool junkie.The limitations you take on with this HF model are:1. Light weight gun with a short lead that keeps you moving the welder around to where you are welding, and makes welding anything more than about five feet off the ground inconvenient.2. Low duty cycle. You will be sitting around waiting for it to cool down.3. Less choice for welding output power.If all you want to do is hobby weld 1/8-inch steel, then this will work if you can live with the limitations. Mine mostly sits around unused loaded with flux-core wire to have a handy grab and go box, but I have done some minor projects with it just for the heck of it.If you can spend the extra money to get the bigger model 93793, then I recommend doing that. I also have the HF 120-volt box (tool junkie), and I think you would be unhappy with that one.
