ok totally new on the aluminum welding, can stick and mig fairly wellpushing the gun with it about 15degrees back welding 1/8al heat and feed speed as per what lid on welder says mm 251 w/ 30a gun .35 wire.welds look good and no cracking (least to me) ill get pics up tonight. but am not able to fill crater at end of weld i dont get it.......tryed a couple diffent things and i can get the crater smaller but cant get it to go away. theese welds are going to be exposed so i gotta make them look good too (i know i gotta get a tig.....) waiting for the money for a miller dynasty 200dx, but got some other things in line first and gotta sell the spool gun.......materials cleaned with ss brush nice and clean. i did the ole destructive testing on it also and couldnt get the weld to break i bent the ever living snot out of the material though.
Reply:You may try building up a good size tack at the stopping point. What I do most of the time is when I reach the stopping point make a small whip motion while drawing out of the puddle the instant i release the trigger. It's a kinda all in the wrist type motion that takes time. I still get a dip sometimes. Dont know if this will help but I hope so.
Reply:Well, I have had that problem myself. Usually before I start welding the seam, I go ahead and weld about an inch right at the edge traveling away from that edge. Then I weld the seam from the other edge and run the bead right into the other weld on the other end. makes it easier to end the weld in my opinion. Good luck ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:thanks guys i will give that a shot. tried playing with it for about an hour tonight before i saw the replies and just frustrated myself. was trying gas, voltage, wire settings but to no avail. will try the wrist whip and the runnin seams into each other. i think im getting closer and closer to finding the money for the dynasty 200DX w finger control. thanks again guys ill giver another run tommorow
Reply:I often will stop to build up then release the trigger. Let the post flow continue for a half second then fire up and fill the crater if there is still a depression. |
