How to stick weld tubes??

hey guys can anyone give me advice on how to weld tubes with an arc welder?? which would be the way i should move the stick'? which amperage would be ok for .120 steel??? any electrode recommendations???
Reply:Well there are some factors.  Are you going to have to weld out of position or are you going to be able to turn and move the tubes so you can always be welding flat?  Also what type of tube are you welding? structural tubing, Stainles, chrome moly??? also what kind of machine are you welding with? Reply:thank you very much for the help or the worrying to help bro. I dont kno a lot of it yet. Were going to build a mini baja bug chassis for a 10 HP motor. Itll be .120 steel i think and i dont think that i could move the tubes so i could always be welding flat. I took a course on welding with stick but i never mastered it. I dont htink that id be welding since the inexperience but i can get to know some things to practice and start with the right foot. Is there a pattern that should be followed or somehitng like dat?? which electrode would be the best for this type of welding?? i think its an AC machine but im not informed yet. If so, which would be the instructions'''
Reply:elvergon, If it was an AC machine, for your purposes I would probably use something like a 6011.  The beads will not be as pretty as other rods, but it will be easier to weld out of position.  Besides you can always clean the welds up with a grinder.  The main thing with something like that is take your time and make sure you get the fitting tight and minimal gap on the weld seams that will make the welding alot easier.  Good luck let us know on your progress.  ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:I welded awnings for five years with 6011's. Try the "c" with a bit of forward backward whip. As for the setting, just weld a few scraps too hot and keep backing it down a little repeatedly until you don't burn through anymore. That's the perfect setting. AC welding is a little weaker than DC because every time the current stops to alternate (60 times a second) a little bit of carbon from the atmosphere gets into the weld so you might want to consider making the welds a twitch bigger.
