hi folks! im a noob on the forum, and a noob to tig welding. the only 2 things i got going for me (besides my dashing good looks), are fair amount of torch welding experience, and an old linde ucc-305 welder that i call the beast. Hoping there's some folks out there that can provide info on this machine. particularily 2 features i havent seen on other machines built in the 70's. 1 is called AC stabilizer. it's a radio style knob with settings fom 1 to 10 printed out soft, normal, and intense. the other is called AC intensity, also radio style 1 to 10, printed out min and max. i just bought this rig, and am not even sure the welder is functioning properly, but in playing with it, i have determined that so far, neither controls the actual ac frequency of the arc, nor does changing the settings seem to affect the cleaning action. however, if i leave one in the middle, and turn the other knob all the way down i get a "flatter" bead. Turn either all the way up and the arc sounds more "crackly"  and the bead stands up, and the puddle doesn't seem to fully integrate into the parent metal. The owners manual pretty much says the same thing for both features, which is "adjust to best results for your application."  gee thanks. I found an old product brochure that describes the ac stabilizer as a "patented circuit that eliminates rectification of the ac arc". What is rectification and what are it's effects? Please keep in mind that i'm fully aware that this is not a new inverter, not square wave, and not going to do all the things a new on will do. The reason that i ultimately decided to get this thing were 2 descriptions that i cant seem to locate again, but they referred to the machine as "the cadillac of tig welders" with regards to arc stability and overall performance. Plus it goes from 1.5 amps to 380--yes 380. Thanks in advancelinde ucc-305miller dialarc 250esab migmaster 350smith OA
