Just so everybody knows, if you work on boats, or boat parts, you have to adhere to a completely different set of rules.   Ignorance is no excuse,  several years ago I got involved in a boat-build, making the motor-mounts, fuel tanks, and fuel-delivery systems, among other things.    I did a little asking around, actually found somebody I went to high-school with, that owned a boat-repair shop, and a marina.  Invaluable advice came from him.  Also, did a little more independant research, found this website   http://www.abycinc.org/  ,,,,  and ordered a couple books off it .....   pic shows one of  them, I don't remember what the other one was, lent it out to somebody and never got it back. Anyway, if you read this book, 100+ pages, you will soon come to the realization that no rules or regs here are simply arbitrary; there is a reason to the madness;  simple fact is, just like in an airplane, you have a problem, you can't just stop at the next gas station, or call center, and request help.   100+ pages of rules, regulations, and explanations.....   and believe me, I followed them to the letter.  Completely written in English; no redundant repeating everything in 5 additional languages .....   100 pages of pure information, even with diagrams and pictures,,,,,,   I think this book cost me $40 or $50 or so; I'd suspect the information is probably available for free now, off a PDF download, but don't know for sure.  In any case, at the time, it was straight, to the point, and no BS info for me to use, designing and doing the job at hand.  Well worth the money ...... If I remember correctly, there were several other rule-books available at the time, on different subjects, from the same source, all USCG approved, maybe still are, I'm not doing the research for anybody here, just providing the basic info so somebody else can follow it further, if they so wish.  In any case, this original job at the time was so far out of my expertise, I did a little research, talked to a few people, found the regulations printed in black and white, ACTUALLY READ those regulations,,,,,  Since this was the early 2000's, didn't waste time asking stupid questions on the interweb, sheesh, who was there to ask at the time??????    and judging from some of the kiss-@ss responses on the previous threads, you'd just get the rah-rah-rah, go go go suck-@sses anyway, don't do me any good, remember, I work in real-life, I don't need the cheerleaders, I just want the check next month resulting from a successful, COMPLETE, job .....  And yeah, I remember the customer did have a "plan" .....    ran it straight into the dumpster .....   didn't meet any standards, rules, regulations I saw, and he must'a been a little desparate, since he accepted the fact he was a "fool" in my eyes .....  Even paid the bill!!!!!!!! Reply:Point I'm trying to make here, guys, is the information is available, no reason to walk into any job like this blind; like I said, I'm not gonna do anybody's research for them, and yes, I am familiar with the other websites mentioned, glad somebody brought them up.  I just mentioned one example, if you look around, probably every regulation or rule concerning boats is out there, nobody's keeping any secrets here, it's all in the public domain.  Soooooo,,,,,   if you do choose to do a boat-related job, and don't check out the free or low-cost published standards regarding your job ......   should I say it ?????    "FOOL" ......
Reply:I just finished putting new larger fuel pickups in my aluminum tanks with the fitting on the top of the tank and the pickup tube extending to near the bottom of the tank. All tiged and pressure tested. I posted it on a boating site and don't you think someone responds as to why I just did not put a fitting on the bottom of the tank. I think it's great that you have some experience and some reference materials. I think it is a shame that you constantly belittle other users.
