Howdy Folks! In piecing together a good used welding setup, I am now in the process of possibly getting (probably winning an ebay bid as we speek) tregaskiss 400 amp tough gun, with the lincoln back and all new front end parts. What is a gun like this worth new do you think? and how do these guns compare to the "kinda" industry standard tweco guns? Anything about these things I should be aware of? Right now I think 60$ is what I'm paying, which seems reasonable in the overall scheme of things. I also am getting a bunch of tips and nozzles and stuff with it. the back is setup for lincoln style, which is the type of feeder I plan to go with for my new (used) (barely) V-350 Pro advanced process. I may even have several guns. with different liners and tips ready to go for the different wire sizes, so it's a real quick change, instead of tearing everything apart like liners and tips every time. Just swap the whole gun assembly. The wire feeder I plan to get is a L-72. It is recomended for the machine I have. Or will have later this week... I'm so stoked!!! Take care! thanx for any and all replies! brian Lee Sparkeee24
Reply:Locally Tregaskiss has taken over the market in shops. The interchangeability of parts is one big plus. It is a good industrial gun. Keep in mind that amp ratings on guns are based on the use of carbon dioxide which helps in the cooling. If you are using an argon mix then the gun should be derated. This is not a big deal until you are running flat out for hours at a time.
Reply:I have two of the same guns you are talking about, toughgun 400amp. They are pretty large and clunky, but they are quality items. Parts are very available and the guns are easy to service. Liner change is 3-5 minutes. New, their price is comparable to other major brands. I think used, they are not as pricey, but that is likely becasue folks like sticking with brands that match their machine mostly. I use mine mostly with flux core. The heft of the consumables really adds life to them. I really like the brand even thought I got my first gun totally by mistake.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:i won an auction on E-Bay and one of the things was a 300amp toughgun that was as new and had plenty tips and parts. seems to be a heavy, high quality gun but was only 8ft. would probably be a great gun for flux. i dunno otherwise ,i gave it to RobinHood to use with one of his feeders, although he doesn't do much flux anymore. i don't have a spunky username just what it is, me! |
