Reply:She do gooder.   Way too tiny and touchy for my jerky moves to even try that kinda stuff. They spend a lot of time picking colors etc too.

Reply:Fun Huh. Nice job Mrs Zap. Did she cut the glass from sheets? Or is it a kit. Still alot of work either way. Here is my 1983 project not to steal your thread. My buddy owned a glass shop and had all the patterns plus the equip to cut and grind the glass, i am sure a lazer or a water jet takes care of that now. The middle and bottom band are the same sheet just turned around because the backside is a different color. Wish i had more time because these sold real good....Bob Attached ImagesBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun

Reply:Here is the final details..Mrs zap wanted me to "Put the Eyes and Noses" on the Glass Hoss'es..Black Rustoleum and a toothpick works good..But they needed "more"..So we started with a Christmas Card from my brother that has alot of "glitter" on it..So I scraped off some of the glitter and added it to the wet paint..You can see the sparkle in their eyes now..All done..I thought the glitter was a good idea.. I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Hey Zap, I guess I stumbled into the glass business today:Attachment 19545Attachment 19546You don't know anyplace to get lessons do ya? Last edited by denrep; 10-19-2010 at 11:34 PM.
Reply:Zap,I got myself some stained glass books last christmas.  I have been slow to get started, though.  I have done some repairs on some old windows.  You can really get some good deals on stained glass with a broken piece here or there...I just have never started one from scratch...maybe I can use this as a motivator.  Very nice post, btw.  I think I am going to print some of the pictures out and stick them in my books, which in many cases aren't nearly as clearly illustrated as your casual snapshots are.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.

Reply:I never dreamed of working with stained glass, until Zap's posts sparked my interest. When I first read the posts last winter, I thought about trying it, but forgot about it. I'm really looking forward to playing with it, today I actually unloaded the stuff and started setting up my "studio". Thanks to Zap, or I probably wouldn't have looked twice at this stuff. So now, besides all the other junk I keep a look-out for, I have to watch for colored glass too! Maybe next winter...Smithboy - The "studio" came with a stack of books and patterns; I'll leaf through 'em and let you know if there's anything good.Vipernut - Not right now, but if I loose interest, I'll give you first chance.Last edited by denrep; 05-10-2008 at 11:19 PM.

Reply:I was going to ask what kind of cutter you use for the glass, but I am now assuming you use the bandsaw for all your cuts?

Reply:First I must say "nice work Mrs. Zap" I think you should make one with a choo choo on it. or a caboose.
Reply:I can't believe I never saw this before but very nice work. I had the opportunity to observe a lady who has been doing the stained glass for about 40 years while I was in college. She made it look so easy but I am a bit leery of the glass. She said anyone that would turn a 4 1/2 grinder into a chainsaw had no reason to be afraid of breaking glass, lol. I still haven't tried the stained glass yet.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:Ah, you can do it Jolly Roger!!!  The hard parts are decreasing radius and things with holes or shapes cut out of them.  ( well the cutting the glass part anyways... )  The rest, I have no formal hands on experience, so I can not truly reply, but I'd imagine you probably can do a bang up job soldering since you are as proficient in welding as you are.  But that is my 2¢...
Reply:Very nice work well done.
Reply:Hey Viper...Here is the pics of the grinder you can "have"..Grinder..Diamond wheel..(Same one used in the thread)P/M sent.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
