I was thinking of geting a welder cover, but wasn't sure if they were designed for covering the welder in the shop to prevent dust and shavings or on the welder while in transport to keep rain and dust off the unit.My main reason is that my welder is mounted to my trailer and will be in tow down dirt roads many times.  I would like to keep the dust from getting in the unit, but from what I can see the covers look like they just drop over the welder and if under tow they might blow off.  Does anyone have one and know if they secure to the welder?I have a Lincoln 225 Ranger if that helps.
Reply:I know my boat cover just has straps that hold it, they are good enough for towing. I probably wouldn't use it on the freeway, but around town is no problem.City of L.A. Reply:I will be on the freeway for long streches as well.
Reply:Lincoln has them listed for $123.00Use thick straps! A flat sided welder should hold a cover much better than a boat hull. Given good anchor straps, I don't think it would be a problem to drive at speed. We have a canvas shop here locally that does great custom work on boats, a welder would be easy for them to add straps to. Me, I would use truck rope.City of L.A. Reply:Find someone that does car interiors and have them make you a custom cover out of vinyl..Give them the dimentions and hole openings where they need to be..(Exhaust)They can add the eyelets to the bottom for bungee cords for securing it down..You DO NOT want to use an old car cover or anything that don't fit right especially on the Hiway..The wind WILL rip it off...Send it flying...and then it covers the car's windshield behind you and that's never a good thing.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I see miller welders running around with nice covers. If you had to Id call a boat canvas place like mentioned above. They can make you something that fits real nice.
