Insanely bored and looking for a welding project

Well I'm stuck doing 12's in the desert and have been looking for a welding project. I was thinking of making a picture frame of some sort out of 17-4 and maybe some sheet metal, but I haven't had any luck finding a picture of anything that grabs me. It is going to be for my wife back home. She likes hot rod flames and scallops so I was thinking something that incorporates one of them. Any pics of simular projects or ideas would be much appreciated..She's a keeper. She wants me to make custom window security bars to replace the dull ones we already have and said I have free rign on the design when I get back...
Reply:I'm guessing that they won't let you do the old fashioned GI art projects any more. The 500 LB bomb casing turned into a table lamp or the 105 shell cut down into an ash tray or pencil holder. I would look at some of the designs around you. I'm thinking the Moorish designs that usually decorate mosques and such. I'll keep trying to think about a project. Part of my thought has to be that it's got to be small and light enough for you to get it home. That leaves out furniture, shelves, shop items. I'm thinking possibly yard art but not coming up with any solid ideas right now. Also not quite sure what you have available for materials. Something out of titanium aircraft parts perhaps?
Reply:I made this for my brother inlaw's Peterbilt, make one upright and larger as the base for a picture frame or something.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:That's closer to what I had in mind. That's really cool. What did you use to make the flames? Is that round stock? Good looking flames.
Reply:Thanks Mr Bigweld, yes it is 1/4" round rod. I sketched it out on my workbench then bent up the pieces and welded it together....a little grinding and that's it.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
