Im aware that one should not run down an acetylene bottle because of the additive of acetone(i think) however. im getting low on my 75%argon 25% co2 mig bottle.(below 500 psi) is it ok to run it dry or should I have it refilled before. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Reply:heck, and all this time Ive run em all empty...acetylene, argon, o2, anything I can get my grubbies on if it catches, let it burnIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:I believe you can run them dry anymore they put vacuum pressure on the bottles then fill I run all mine dry.Oxy acy 92/8 75/25 Co2 argon & 90 7.5 2.5 but to each his own just my 2cents
Reply:yeah its your money your throwing away not a lot but hey its somehtingIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:I'm not aware that it's bad to run down an acetylene bottle. I don know it's bad to use one if it's been lying at an angle or on it's side, or possibly to pull acetylene from it too fast (think big cutting torch or rosebud tip) as acetone may be pulled out with the gas. Am I wrong?
Reply:Run them dry ( accept the acetylene) it will not hurt anything
Reply:the only thing I dislike worse, than bringing an empty bottle home ( a dud), is packin' one that still has gas, back to the store!!We need to protect Freedom of Speech, otherwise, how would we know who the A-holes (like me) are.
Reply:Again, for years Ive run acetylene dry, well maybe not dry. I run this all the same. I run them till they dont do the job. There will be something in them, but when they arent giving me the proper flame, or the shielding starts geting weak, I chunk em. Well I dont chunk em I take them back lol. But same differnce to me IF it Catches...Let it Burn

Reply:In "theory" it's a good practice not to run a tank completely empty. In "theory" if you run a tank completely empty during a time of high temperatures then that tank could/should have a vacuum during cold temperatures. If opened during cold temperatures it (the tank) could suck in cold damp air. A tank with an itsy bit of pressure is also a sign that the tank was probably not open and left open for an extended period of time whereby it could breath-in breath-out breath-in.............For scuba tanks, this is a very important consideration.
Reply:I use alot of acetylene in my refrig. business and always run em down till my turbo torch gets to weak to silver solder anymore then bring em back...especially at todays prices...lol I am cheap!!
Reply:When the torch dosen't light get a new tank!!
Reply:lol well I never gotten to a point it wont light. Just the flame dont work no good. Its hard to expalin you know it when its hapeneing though. If your tryin to cut your cuts will suck to be impossible. Goes for either oxy or ace but you look at your regs youll know which is bad lolIF it Catches...Let it Burn |
