Hey everyone I have been here for a little while and has learned so much.  I am looking at getting a MIG in the 175 class.. Could you guys let me know which one you would get or have and how they work. I would like to hear both good and bad. Thanks Matthew
Reply:I run a millermatic 185 (now a 210) and love it. I have the optional spool gun for aluminum. I use this machine daily and it has held up great with no problems at all. I would buy another one with out hesitation.Yes I can tack it for you.    I know that won't hold but that is what you asked me to do.  Millermatic 350P XR Aluma-Pro push/pullMillermatic 185/spool gunMiller Dialarc 250 HF Water cooledThermal Dynamics Plasma
Reply:I just recently got a Lincoln 175 "pro mig" the kind they sell at Lowes for $594 (plus tax here in CA..). I got it from ebay for $525 delivered. I'm new to welding, but so far I'm happy with my choice. True it doesn't allow for endless minute changes to voltage, but there is a nice chart that recommends what wire feed speed and which letter (voltage) to select, A-E. Works well for me so far, but honestly my technique leaves much to be desired so take this with a grain of salt. The welder I got comes with what you need to MIG weld, you just add a tank of gas and go. It comes set up for MIG also (wiring wise), but also comes with a gasless nozzle if you want to use flux core.Whatever you get I'm sure you'll be happy with the power of a 220/230v machine.Good luck.
Reply:Is the Pro Mig 175 exactly the same as the Sp175T ?  I see it they both have 5 tap settings...how about the 'burnback' feature for ending a bead?
Reply:I have had the HH 175 for a few years now and really think it is a great machine, however it has been replaced with the HH 180. I have not tried the HH 180 but if it is anything like the 175 it is a good welder. I keep wishing though that I had the MM 210 mig. Someday one might follow me home but right now can't justify it.  I started out with a 135 class mig and after a year or so with it I decided to go bigger.
Reply:I might suggest a millermatic passport. It is mobile at 45 lbs. and can use dual voltage 115 or 230.
Reply:forgot to say it goes from 30-180 and is an inverter type, hence the light weight.
Reply:I believe, "burn back" is pretty much a "must have" feature and comes standard on all standard and quality machines. Some may choose to list it in the glossy and some may not. If I were to be silly and look at one of the low end off brands I'd dern sure verify that it had that feature tho.
Reply:I'm totally happy with my Millermatic 175.
Reply:I have a millermatic 175 and am happy with it also, but it depends on what you want to do, if you are going to weld alum you will want to check on what it will take to add a spool gun, mine cost more for a spool gun and controller than for the welder its selfit would have cost me less to go with a bigger machine that came with its own spool gunMatt the Alaskan red neck
Reply:do bigger machines come with spoolguns???   i like the pushpull 251 if all your really planning on is alum    but i dont weld alum....hard to see lolIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:I love this machine. It only weighs 55lbs with a full 8"spool in it and the arc is incredible.I like it for it's portability and it has some power to go with it.Range 30-180 also 115V or 230V just change plug ends machine does the rest. Also has a small cylinder inside(co2)about 25minutes worth.I do alot of light guage work(22guage)also some1/4"exhaust duct.Rated for 3/8"if I need to.Sorry people just very happy with this welder....honestly miller did not pay me for this.....lol.I would truly recommend this unit to anyone.Nobody moves nobody gets hurt(safety first)
Reply:well falcon thats great,  we   like when folks share their stories good and badIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:I had the MM175 and it was an awesome welder.  Since you don't state a budget, I'd give a big thumbs up to the MM Passport, though for sheer versatility for this amperage class. At www.toolking.com they carry the B-grade reconditioned Hobart HH175 for $407 shipped, but they are often out of stock.  That's the best deal going, especially since it is a better welder in the midrange (1/8" material) than it's current model, the HH180.

Reply:Yes they do Mac, but its just market research. The other planets are ok.
Reply:Is it just me, or does Lincoln have the butt-ugliest spoolguns on the planet? The Miller 3035 seems rate just as high or higher in the looks department. The Lincolns use two and the Mk model way better looking then theMiller 30 unit. Is it a better unit?? Probably not.The cheaper CK Lincoln models are way better thenthe cheaper Miller units.
