Well I finally broke my harbor freight bandsaw blade after about 3 months of using it. I don't know how successful it is to try and mig weld bandsaw blades but I didn't have anything to lose. I just cleaned up the break with a small sanding disc and clamped the ends together on a piece of angle iron and set my welder on the lowest setting and slowed the wire speed down to 1. After I was finished welding I used the same small sanding disc in my die grinder to sand the weld flush. I have used the fixed blade about 1 hour so far and it works like new. Reply:Git-r-done!I'd say to smooth out your sanding a bit more.  Those small scratches are micro-cracks just waiting to get bigger.  A mirror-polish isn't really needed, but I'd say go for at least a 'satin' finish and not rougher than a 'brushed' finish.
Reply:Thats a good point Moonrise, I actually don't expect it to last very long but it might last longer if I smooth it out a bit more. That was 80 grit on a 2 in. sanding disc that I already had on my 90 degree die grinder. I will hit it with some 240 and see if it smooths out nice with that.
Reply:I've done that several times when I just could not get the blade in time to finish a job. Clean breaks are easy, it's when the blade bends and snaps thats a PITA. You may be surprised how long it lasts like that. As long as the teeth are still good It may last quite a while.
Reply:When I was in shop class we always annealed the area welded after grinding the weld off, because the weld is so hard. -Dan

Reply:What do you do when all the teeth come off ?  :DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Your join looks pretty good. You'll either end up with a bandsaw blade with a few joins, or a series of joins with a few teeth!"One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for."
