I built this so that I wouldn't have to use the targets at our local range. It was made so that it could easily be broken down to fit in our vehicle along with all of our other supplies. Reply:Nice frame!A friend and I were shooting at paper targets held in a frame not unlike that once.... a 30-30 round hit the side frame and that was the end of shooting for the day.  Snapped that sucker right off and the frame collapsed! I'm just not saying who's shot hit the frame.  -MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:My dad used to make some nice frames like that..... He got tired of constantly having to repair them because I would intentionally aim for them just to watch him cuss when they collapsed.  On the bright side those were some of the first welds I ever made (he thought he was punishing me )  Have you made some of the swinging targets?  I have a blast with those and you throw a piece of 1/2 inch plate on there and they will handle even large bore rifle rounds.

Reply:My dad built one waaayyyy back when I was in high school out of sucker rod. I don't think it has ever had to be repaired other than replacing the plywood backer for the targets (the wind blows all the time there). I think all shooting a sucker rod does is dent the bullet, lol. They work harden to the point cutting tools (lathe, milling machine, thread dies and even bolt cutters) shatter on them. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:Depending on the size of the targets you want to switch out that can be done pretty easy.  All you need to do is either 1. just make the stand so the swing bars can be slid off and changed or make it so the targets are held to the swing bars by some thumb screws.  The later is faster changes but a bit more work upfront drilling and tapping.

Reply:Solid steel targets should always be at a downward slant so that things dont come flying back at you.  This is really important if you are going to be firing close to the target (like with handguns).  The targets I was shooting the frames of were all 100+ yards away, but you are right there is always the chance of a ricoche.
