i live in a place where tig is hardly used, 95% we use smaw. what u think of my few attempts on tig welding s/s i used 3/32 tungsted, #7 gas lense, 1/8 308 filler rod, machine is set to 100 amps with foot pedal, 15cfh. can u guys tell me if im doing it wrong, or what adjustments i should do.thank you
Reply:looks good to mei'd like to see the tie-off ...zap!
Reply:Pretty nice. Looks like the hand-eye-foot thing is there. You might have a bit of undercut on the top edge of the bead though (not much, but a little), that's the only thing I can see that might use a bit of improvement, but that's just nit picking. On the other hand, I dont do stainless, so I might be just seeing things.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I also see the undercut on the top of the bead. Your heat looks good, I would play with the angle of the torch a little, maybe even weave it a little. Stainless needs to be very clean before being welded. Next time, clean everything up with a fresh flap disc or whatever you like to use and then try welding it. Your udercut may even go away with just a cleaning. I know people like to weld microscopic beads with their tig torch, but feeding the filler a little faster might also reduce the undercut. Otherwise, your heat input looks very low for that kind of weld and that is good (minimal distortion).
Reply:thanks alot for the comments. i will follow u guys advice. |
