Here's the deal..I have 15 of these to do..9 of them are rolled and tacked as one piece..The following pics are what the end cutoffs were turned into..We had 3 extra pieces to chop apart and get what I needed..Also a good way to not throw away stuff because it was too short to make complete rings..The ring was only round between 8:00 and 4:00 as you can see..Measure and chop the replacement out of the extra rolled rings..Here is the inner ring that goes on later..1/14 square solid..Goes like this..Set up to weld..Gap..Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:The welds were started from the outside and go to the corner then uphill..There was no filler weld then the weave.. all done in one operation..Going up..Bottom weld..More uphill..And more uphill..Ring done..250 amps..3/32" Red end..Gas mix..1/16" 4043..Lots more to do tomorrow..I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:this may sound like a stupid question, but why not just buy some angle-face rings? Felker sells them. i know the ones you made were aluminum, but i would think that SOMEONE would have them..oh wait... this is a welding forum ain't it? lol. what are the diameters on those anyway?beautiful welds zap, as usual.Later,Andy

Reply:With 1/16" filler you can really pump it in rather than let the bigger filler take time to "get hot"..Kinda hard to explane but if you want penetration with no preheat on stuff like this..Smallest you can do is better..In MY opinion.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:pretty..............oops sorry purdy weldsand those arent Gonkulator Rings, of course I would not expect a noob like yourself to recognize reticulated amorphous tendricle retainers. Especially form up north.Gonkulatur Rings have flavor ridgesI love rolled angle.   I prefer when the flange is inside, that really gets the guys in our fab shop going.  speccially on the big stuff.insert thoughtful quote from someone else2000 Thermal Arc 300GTSW 3.5 hours1946 Monarch 20 x 54 Lathe1998 Supermax 10x54 Mill2004 Haco Atlantic 1/2" Capacity Lasernot mine but i get to play with it

Reply:Here are the pics that did not work. The sandy appearance on the T-Fillet is from the weld I ran on the backside after this side was welded. The material was 1/16 6061 with 3/32 5356 filler. -Dan Attached Images

Reply:As we continue finally..It's time to weld in the inner ring..Big stuff needs Heat so instead of beating up the machine we just use the propane rosebud to get the heat going..First pass..Second pass..More..Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Couple more pics..Here is the actual Gonkulator installed in the ring..Torch set-up..I marked out the ring every 5" so you have 5" of weld..skip 5" all the way around..I think there are 10 weld areas on each ring and there are 14 rings to do..Looks like I have work to do..I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:very nicely done Zap... it almost looks like you know what you are doing or something. lolLater,AndyAwesome work!  Right purdy, too!  But....  aren't those gratings supposed to be installed on the other side of the rings??Member, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:Here is the pieces  in place and finished ground..Now when installing the inner ring you want to make a 5" weld happen over filler piece from equal sides..Now the inner ring is suddenly too small so after clamping and "stretching" here is what we need to fill in wich I did..Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Same thing goes for the inner ring weld area..Put it where a 5" weld goes also..Finish all the weld areas and then fill in the cuts on the plate both sides and then finish grind..And done!I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Nice work Zap, I hate that 5 seconds when the customer returns with "that look" and your thinking "hmmm what happened" Havent had a failure or mistake yet, but it still gets the blood pumpin.Yup

Reply:I just love it when the "samples" don't match the actual items. The "I need X# that need to fit this" and they had to pick the largest/smallest one to give you, so that all the others wont fit or are too tight. "ok, now what do we do with this Ollie?"
Reply:Pic 7 doesn't show a splice on the inner ring. Pic 8 & 9 do. Did you offset the the splices? And if the inner ring was previously welded, HOW did you offset them?? Did that make any sense? Thanks, Craig Last edited by Craig in Denver; 07-22-2008 at 12:34 AM.9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training.
