Found this on craigslist for $400 I'm going to call on it today. Does this look like a camper turned utility or home made? Kind of looks like a camper trailer at one time.Just curious I'm going to call in the morning. thanks Attached Images It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters
Reply:Definately looks home made or altered from the original design.Things I noticed: Tounge looks like either a very small A or a single tube, That seems unusual for a tandem trailer. Frame looks too thin for the length, I don't see a sub frame or that the A goes back to give support. My first thought was that this was a "ladder" type landscape trailer that someone cut the side ladder truses off and widened, added the beaver tail too. If so they seriously compromised the strength of the trailer. Frame also seems to have a bow in the picts, but it could be the camera lens doing that. If the frame is bowed that means its had a serious load and definately needs to be rebuilt iwth a new frame.Personally I would be very cautious of the trailer. I'd love to get a tandem axle trailer for $400, but I have a feeling it would end up getting completly rebuilt in order to be safe/useful. My guess is that they have it tagged at 7500 lbs not 10,000lb. I would want to climb all over it and go over it with a fine tooth comb and see how its put together. My guess is that you will spend almost the same as building new to get that trailer in tip top shape. Figure new breaks, posibly bearings/hubs, tires ( those are dryrotted I bet), new deck boards and hardware, possibly wiring and lights and more steel to reinforce/ rebuild from scrath the frame.I assume you are looking for a toy hauler as opposed to something to move a couple of lawnmowers? I think its way underbuilt as a vehicle carrier.
Reply:The steel bars in the front look a little thin for a camper, i could be wrong though.,The Welder Shop has great deals and reviews on Hobart, Miller and Lincoln Welders.

Reply:I agree with the others; looks like a project.Keep looking... A nice one can be had for $1000; and after spending over a $1000 on that one, it still won't be as nice.If you really feel like tackling it, buy it cheap, less than scrap even.
