I built this a few years ago. The client offered me the opportunity to make make several, though after this one I knew I was not set up to build them. Anyway, somebody else might be interested in fabricating them. This is a large one, though most are 1/3rd this size.They (valet) wear these things out. Common problems are hinges and wheels. Hinges mostly because for every parked car the door will open and close 2 times. So 500 cycles is easy nights work. Wheels on the cabinets below where challenging and educational. While the weight capacity was not exceeded, The ratio of height to width allow the wheels to flop over. After the third in on year the caster vendor pointed that out.This cabinet has been replaced by a just as large Aluminum Cabinet. It has light in the panels, and cutout for advertising. The only gain over steel is rust resistance, because the cabinet is heavier than those below. The cabinets a fabbed of 14g sheet steel and 11g angle framing. All seams o/a welded, with stick welded tacks. It was built outside on a trailer.
Reply:That is a nice cabinet. I bet it would get mighty hot if left in the sun, though. Did you have to make any bends in sheet metal for it? I've used simple bench brakes to make bends in sheet metal once or twice, way back when. Those brakes get real expensive with models of larger size.City of L.A. Reply:No brake. All individual sheet welded with o/a torch. There is a place for an large umbrella. |
